Description
Lake Catalão is a floodplain lake located in the Amazonas state, in the municipality of Iranduba, near the confluence of the Solimões and Negro rivers, near Manaus. Lake Catalão is normally connected to the Solimões River through a short channel ("carnal") after the first few months of high water. It is rarely completely disconnected from the Negro River, but during severe droughts it can shrink significantly, becoming a small pool ("poção"). Under these conditions, it drains into the Negro River.
