Description
Widely distributed throughout Canada and south to Virginia and Texas, USA. Max length : 13 cm TL Adults inhabit lakes and pools and runs of medium to large rivers. Most common in clear water over sand or gravel. Form schools. Move to the surface at dusk to feed on microcrustaceans, midge larvae, and algae; descends to deeper waters at daybreak.
