Lake Anahuac is formed by a dam on Turtle Bayou. Water flows out of the lake into Turtle Bayou through the dam’s outlet works. Turtle Bayou then continues southeast toward the coastal estuary system. So the lake ultimately drains into the Trinity–Galveston Bay estuary.
