E-4 Canal is a freshwater canal in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. It is part of the Lake Worth Drainage District (LWDD) canal network, which was developed to provide flood control, drainage, irrigation, and water level management throughout southeastern Florida. The canal is interconnected with several lakes and canals, forming an important component of the region's water management system.
The E-4 Canal is closely connected with Lake Ida, Lake Osborne, and several other freshwater lakes. It flows into the C-16 Canal, which eventually discharges into Lake Worth Lagoon and, through ocean inlets, into the Atlantic Ocean. The canal helps regulate water levels, transport stormwater, and reduce flood risk in surrounding residential and agricultural areas.
The E-4 Canal is a popular freshwater fishing destination and is well known for its diverse fish community. Anglers commonly catch Largemouth Bass (Micropterus nigricans), Butterfly Peacock Bass (Cichla ocellaris), Bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus), Black Crappie (Pomoxis nigromaculatus), Mayan Cichlid (Cichlasoma urophthalmus), Blue Tilapia (Oreochromis aureus), Spotted Tilapia (Pelmatolapia mariae), and other native and introduced species that thrive in South Florida's canal system.
Although it was constructed as part of a flood control and drainage network, the E-4 Canal has become an important recreational fishery. Its direct connections to several productive lakes and canals make it one of the key freshwater fishing waters in Palm Beach County.
