The Carboj River feeds into the Lago Arancio, an artificial reservoir created between 1949 and 1952 by damming the river. The reservoir has a capacity of up to 32 million cubic meters and spans approximately 400 hectares. The Carboj River serves as the sole emissary of Lago Arancio. After exiting the reservoir, it flows through the Gole della Tardara, a natural canyon characterized by narrow, steep-walled gorges. The river discharges into the Mediterranean Sea at Contrada Maragani, situated between the towns of Sciacca and Menfi.
