Upper Slide Lake is a natural mountain lake located on the Gros Ventre River in western Wyoming, USA, east of Jackson within the Bridger-Teton National Forest. The lake was formed by an ancient prehistoric landslide that blocked part of the river valley long before the famous 1925 Gros Ventre Slide that created nearby Lower Slide Lake.
The lake is surrounded by forested mountains, steep slopes, and scenic wilderness landscapes typical of the Greater Yellowstone region. Upper Slide Lake is smaller and quieter than Lower Slide Lake and is known for its peaceful atmosphere and natural beauty.
Fishing is one of the main recreational activities at Upper Slide Lake. Anglers commonly catch cutthroat trout, brook trout, and rainbow trout. Fishing can be productive from shore, small boats, kayaks, and float tubes, especially during the warmer months from late spring through early autumn.
Light tackle, flies, spinners, spoons, and natural bait are all used successfully depending on conditions and season. The surrounding Gros Ventre River system is also well known for trout fishing and attracts anglers looking for scenic mountain waters away from larger crowds.
In addition to fishing, the area around Upper Slide Lake is popular for camping, wildlife watching, hiking, photography, and boating. Moose, elk, bears, and bald eagles are frequently seen in the surrounding valley and forest.
