Quivira National Wildlife Refuge is a federally managed wetland and grassland habitat in central-southern Kansas, primarily in Stafford County, near the town of Stafford. It is one of the most important wetland areas in the Central Flyway for migratory birds. Size: approx. 90 km². Wetland types: Salt marshes, freshwater marshes, seasonal ponds, and playa wetlands Inflow: Streams, local runoff, and managed water from Spring Creek and other small tributaries Outflow: Water is primarily retained in wetland pools; overflow eventually moves into the Little Arkansas River system in wet years.
