Mud Lake (Mississippi–Tennessee) is an oxbow lake on the border of DeSoto County, Mississippi and Shelby County, Tennessee — a former bend of the Mississippi River that was cut off as the river changed course. During high Mississippi River stages, oxbow lakes near the river can sometimes reconnect temporarily via low channels, backwater flooding, or crevasse channels, allowing water to move between the river and the oxbow lake.
