Montrose Conservation Area Lakes is in Henry County, Missouri.
The principal lake in the area is Montrose Lake, a large (~1,600-acre) impoundment originally built as a cooling reservoir for a former coal-fired power plant. It’s now managed by the Missouri Department of Conservation for fishing, waterfowl habitat, and other wildlife uses. Montrose Lake is created by damming Deepwater Creek — that creek is both the main inflow upstream and the outflow downstream of the lake. Below the dam, Deepwater Creek continues generally eastward and eventually enters Truman Reservoir (Harry S. Truman Lake) on the Osage River. Within the Montrose Conservation Area there are wetlands, small ponds, and shallow lake areas associated with the larger floodplain and water management zones.
