Chelkar Lake, also known as Shalkar Lake (or Shalqar Köli), is a brackish lake located in the West Kazakhstan region of Kazakhstan. The lake has unique features, a warm and clear, if sometimes littered, water, and sits atop a large underground salt mountain, which has been mined since the 8th century. It is known for its healing properties, a vast size, and serves as a point of interest for scientific expeditions, archaeological research, and ecotourism.
