The West Branch California Aqueduct is one of the two main branches of the California Aqueduct in Southern California (the other is the East Branch).
The West Branch begins at the Edmonston Pumping Plant, located near the Tehachapi Mountains. Water is pumped up from the California Aqueduct main line, which originates from the San Luis Reservoir and ultimately from the Sacramento–San Joaquin Delta (fed by the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers).
The West Branch flows southward to the Castaic Lake, which serves as its terminal reservoir. From Castaic Lake, water enters the Castaic Lagoon and Santa Clara River system (if released), eventually reaching the Pacific Ocean near Ventura.
