Jackson Lake is a large natural lake located in northwestern Wyoming, USA, within Grand Teton National Park near Yellowstone National Park. The lake lies at the base of the Teton Range and is one of the most scenic lakes in the Rocky Mountains. Although originally a natural glacial lake, its size was expanded by the construction of Jackson Lake Dam on the Snake River.
The lake covers a large area surrounded by dramatic mountain peaks, forests, and wilderness landscapes. Jackson Lake is an important part of the Snake River system and serves both recreational and water storage purposes.
Fishing on Jackson Lake is highly popular and the lake is especially known for lake trout, cutthroat trout, mountain whitefish, and brown trout. Lake trout can grow to impressive sizes, attracting anglers from across the western United States. Cutthroat trout are also an iconic native species of the region.
Fishing is done from shore and boats, with trolling being particularly effective for lake trout in deeper water. Summer and early autumn are considered the best fishing seasons, although conditions can vary due to mountain weather and cold water temperatures.
Jackson Lake is also famous for boating, kayaking, camping, wildlife viewing, and photography. The surrounding area is home to elk, moose, bears, bald eagles, and many other wildlife species typical of the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem.
