Anderson Ranch Reservoir is a large mountain reservoir located in southwestern Idaho, USA, on the South Fork Boise River. The reservoir was created by Anderson Ranch Dam, a major hydroelectric and irrigation project completed in the mid-20th century. It lies northeast of the city of Mountain Home within the Boise National Forest.
The reservoir stretches through a scenic canyon and forest landscape at an elevation of over 4,000 feet. It is known for its clear water, steep shorelines, and beautiful mountain surroundings. Anderson Ranch Reservoir stores water for irrigation in the Snake River Plain and also generates hydroelectric power.
Fishing is one of the most popular activities at Anderson Ranch Reservoir. The lake is especially famous for kokanee salmon fishing and regularly produces large kokanee. Other fish species include rainbow trout, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, and bull trout. The reservoir attracts anglers from across Idaho during spring, summer, and autumn.
The area is also popular for boating, camping, kayaking, water skiing, and hiking. Several campgrounds, boat ramps, and recreation sites are located around the reservoir, making it a well-known outdoor destination in southern Idaho.
