Contreras Reservoir

The Contreras reservoir is located between the municipalities of Villargordo del Cabriel in the province of Valencia and La Pesquera, Mira, Enguídanos and Minglanilla in the province of Cuenca, Spain.
It was built in 1972 at the confluence of the Cabriel and Guadazaón rivers. It has an area of 2,710 ha, with a maximum capacity of 943 hm³, and the height of the dam is 129 metres. It is used for energy production and to supply water to the Júcar-Turia Canal, which supplies drinking water to the city of Valencia. It normally does not exceed 20% of its capacity due to the permeability of the rock on which a second dam is founded, located about 500 m west of the main one, which closes the reservoir.
